What is it about a hug

How we used to take the simple things for granted. This third lockdown has hit us all, especially as we have no end date. It seems forever since we were able to see family and friends how we used to. Think of all those times we used to say goodbye and give someone a hug and just how that felt. It isn’t forever we will all be hugging again soon, but I just thought I might enlighten you as to why hugging is just so important!

I assure you I am not making this up but a hug really does make us happier. Now comes the science bit! When we a hug oxytocin is released and yes this is our happy hormone which moves around improving our mood just from that simple cuddle. Would you believe at the same time this oxytocin thing can actually help to reduce blood pressure and that good old stress hormone ( which many of us are flooded with at this time). If we reduce our stress hormone that then gives our immune system a boost. Hugs really are a win win when we can get them.

If at this time you aren’t managing to get any of those all important hugs remember cats and dogs are sometimes keen (obviously running up to random animals in the park/neighbourhood might not be such a good thing). Self-hugging sounds mad I know but really does have benefits. Get that pillow or that cushion and give it an almighty squeeze.

Whatever you do, just keep remembering the light at the end of the tunnel is there and that if you look there is always somebody out there to talk to

sending you all lots of hugs and saying well done you have got this far I have no doubt you will get through this final hurdle.
